The continent accounts for around 30% of the world’s known mineral reserves, including significant shares of platinum group metals, manganese, chromium, cobalt, diamonds, bauxite, and rare earth elements. Africa also holds approximately 8% of global natural gas reserves and 7% of global proven oil reserves, while possessing some of the world’s best renewable energy resources, particularly solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal potential.
More Than Just Minerals
Beyond its mineral wealth, Africa is one of the world‘s greatest agricultural frontiers. The continent contains around 60% of the world‘s uncultivated arable land, offering enormous opportunities to increase food production, strengthen food security, and expand agricultural value chains. Agriculture currently contributes about 15–20% of Africa‘s GDP and provides livelihoods for more than half of the continent‘s population. With improved infrastructure, technology, irrigation, and market access, Africa has the potential not only to feed its own growing population but also to become a major supplier to global food markets.
